The procedure to remove the back door lock begins with unmounting the back door trim upper panel assembly then removing the back door side garnish from both left-hand and right-hand sides. As the next step remove the back door inside handle together with the back door trim board assembly. Disconnect the connector after which remove three bolts attaching the back door lock until you can take out the lock.

The first step to unlock a back door involves removing the back door trim upper panel assembly and next the back door side garnish from the left-hand and right-hand sides followed by the back door inside handle and trim board assembly. After disconnecting the connector and removing the three bolts securing the back door lock the lock can be detached. The back door inside handle and back door trim board assembly become the next items to remove from the sequence. The last step requires you to disconnect the connector then separate the back door lock by taking out its mounting bolts.

One should begin trunk or liftgate lock repair by removing the back door trim board assembly. Disconnection of components and removal of three bolts results in extraction of the back door lock assembly.

The service process requires one to start by removing the back door trim board assembly when repairing trunk or liftgate lock issues. First disconnect the connector from the back door lock assembly before removing the three securing bolts for the assembly.

Service and repair operations for the trunk/liftgate lock need the wiper and washer systems to be properly secured before beginning work. The service starts by dismantling the back window upper trim panel assembly before proceeding to the back door trim cover on the left side (for no power back doors) compared to the back door service hole cover on the left side (with a power back door). The service on trunk/liftgate lock begins with disconnecting the power back door rod if present before removing the left back door trim cover for power back door models and the right back door trim cover for all other cases. The installation process begins with removing the back door lock cover for glass hatch types and also the assist strap hole cover and assist strap assembly. Movable parts for the next installment consist of the back door trim panel assembly along with the rear wiper shaft cover and rear wiper arm head cap and the rear wiper arm and blade assembly and the rear wiper link cap and the rear wiper link pivot. The final step consists of disconnecting the connector followed by disengaging the clamp while removing the 3 bolts and separating the clip until the process is finished.

The back door lock assembly installation requires you to fasten 3 bolts at 13 Nm (133 kgf-cm, 10 ft-lbf) torque value and connect all connectors. The installation of the assembly with Power Back Door requires four same-torque bolts while connecting the connector before clamping it into place. The third step involves adding the back door trim panel assembly along with assist strap assembly and assist strap hole cover. The Glass Hatch Type requires a back door lock cover to be installed before both configurations (with and without Power Back Door) receive their left side back door trim cover. The service hole cover of the left Power Back Door needs the back door power rod connection followed by installation. The right side back door trim cover and the back window upper panel trim assembly should be installed as a final step.

Use a "TORX" socket wrench T30 to remove the 3 screws, then move the rear door lock downward and pull the release plate out of the rear door outside handle frame.

Attach the back door trim upper panel assembly.

Secure the back door using the 3 bolts with a torque of 7.5 Nm (76 kgf-cm, 66 in-lbf) and connect the connector.

A new door lock wire harness seal.

Remove the 3 bolts to take out the back door lock assembly.

Install the rear door inside locking cable, engage the 3 claws, and close the cover.

Remove the front door window regulator sub-assembly, front door frame rear lower sub-assembly, separation door stiffener cushion, and front door outside handle cover.

Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal.

Remove the rear door armrest base upper panel, inside handle bezel, trim board sub-assembly, glass inner weatherstrip, trim bracket, service hole cover, check assembly, weatherstrip, and belt moulding assembly.

Take off the outer rear view mirror assembly, front door belt moulding assembly, front door trim bracket, front door service hole cover, front door glass sub-assembly, front door glass run, and front door window regulator sub-assembly.

Connect the cable to the negative battery terminal with a torque of 5.4 Nm (55 kgf-cm, 48 in-lbf).

Install a new door lock wire harness seal onto the rear door lock.

Install the rear door lock remote control cable, engage the claw, and close the cover.

Slide the front door lock downward, pull out the front door lock open rod from the outside handle frame, and remove the front door lock and cables as a unit.

Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal.

Engage the claw and close the cover.

Adhesive using Toyota Genuine Adhesive 1324, Three Bond 1324, or an equivalent.

Install the back door trim board assembly.

Use a screwdriver with its tip wrapped in protective tape to disengage the 3 claws and open the cover before finally removing the rear door inside locking cable.

Remove the front armrest base upper panel, front door lower frame bracket garnish, front door inside handle bezel, front door trim board sub-assembly, and front door glass inner weatherstrip.

Connect the connector.

Disconnect the negative battery terminal and wait at least 90 seconds to prevent airbag and seat belt pretensioner activation.

Remove the back door service hole cover on the left side.

Remove the rear door armrest base upper panel, inside handle bezel, trim board sub-assembly, trim bracket, and service hole cover.

Next, install the front door lock remote control cable assembly.

Remove the front door rear lower frame sub-assembly, outside handle cover for the driver side, and outside handle cover for the front passenger side.

Take off the back door lock cover.
