The servicing process of Transmission Position Switch/Sensor starts with removing the engine under cover. Remove the park/neutral position switch after disconnecting its connector by first removing shift control cable clip then control cable nut then transaxle control shaft lever along with the nut and washer. A screwdriver should be used to pry off the lock plate before removing the nut and lock plate and taking out the two bolts which will extract the park/neutral position switch. The first installation step involves attaching the park/neutral position switch through its two bolts with torque set to 5.4 Nm (55 kgf-cm, 48 inch lbs.). Next, add a new lock plate and secured nut with proper torque of 6.9 Nm (70 kgf-cm, 61 inch lbs.) followed by bending the lock plate claws to secure the nut. The installation process begins by setting the transaxle control shaft lever and washer along with torquing the nut to 15 Nm (150 kgf-cm, 11 ft. lbs.). Next, install the control cable and its corresponding nut by torquing to 15 Nm (150 kgf-cm, 11 ft. lbs.). Finish the procedure by attaching the clip to the shift control cable. Use the multi-meter to verify the engine will start only when the shift lever positions to N or P; then test the operation again. If starting occurs at other positions perform the shift lever adjustment procedure. Perform a test drive of the car then reinstall the engine cover as the last step of the repair process.
