Scion xA Sway Bars minimize suspension roll when cornering. These Sway Bars link the suspension on both sides so lean is resisted. As a result, steering remains consistent. A heavy-duty steel rod is attached to the chassis with pivot bushings at each end and to the control arms with end links. As the xA rolls, the bar twists, resisting the roll. The Sway Bars depend on strident bushings and tight end link joints, and wear here can cause clunking noises, extra sway and less precise handling. Routine checks help to keep your Scion xA Sway Bars in top shape, as they reveal cracked bushings, loose ball sockets, or distorted attachments. Some Scion links can take new bushings retained by metal washers. If there is looseness in the links, those featuring integral ball joints on both ends must be replaced as a unit. If the Sway Bars are bent due to impact damage or corrosion, or the mounting holes are elongated, the full bar should be replaced. The factory Scion suspension is designed to provide a balance between comfort and stability. Therefore, installing thicker Sway Bars on an xA is ideal as it improves torsional stiffness and allows for sharper control without changing ride height.

Scion xA Sway Bars Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to service the front Sway Bars on Scion xA?
    A:
Service of the front Sway Bars starts by taking off the front wheel and removing the hood sub-assembly. Set the engine in suspension position afterward remove both left and right front suspension No. 1 lower arm sub-assemblies and disconnect the front Sway Bars together with power steering link assembly and pressure feed tube assembly and front suspension crossmember sub-assembly. Service the front Sway Bars after removing its 4 bolts and 2 bushes together with No. 1 sway bar brackets from both sides of the vehicle. After that detach the Sway Bars itself. Install the Sway Bars with its 2 bushes and 2 brackets using 4 bolts then tighten them to 37 Nm (375 kgf-cm, 27 ft. lbs.) while placing the bush slits to face the back of the vehicle and position outside paint marks. The service order begins with reconnecting the power steering link assembly together with the front suspension crossmember sub-assembly and pressure feed tube assembly and front Sway Bars installation after which comes front suspension No. 1 lower arm sub-assembly reassembly on both sides. Fasten the front wheel while tightening it to 103 Nm (1,050 kgf-cm, 76 ft. lbs.) before checking and readjusting the hood sub-assembly if required. End the procedure with front wheel alignment checking and adjustment when necessary.
