Scion tC Coil Springs Parts and Q&A

  • Q: How to Remove and Replace Coil Springs in a Rear Shock Absorber on Scion tC?
    A:
Start by uninstalling the tonneau cover assembly before proceeding to remove the deck board assembly and back door scuff plate and deck floor boxes both left and right hand side. After that phase remove the rope hook and all floor boards along with the rear seat cushion assembly and finally the rear seatback assembly. The coil spring replacement process begins with the removal of front door scuff plate followed by No. 1 luggage compartment trim hook and then continuing with the removal of No. 1 side trim assembly and No. 2 deck side trim hook and deck trim side panel assembly. You should first disconnect the rear wheel before removing the skid control sensor wire by detaching its connector and unbolt the wire bracket. Start the process of disconnecting the rear stabilizer link assembly LH by removing its nut then use an h5 hexagon wrench to hold the stud while doing the same procedure on the RH side. Start by supporting the LH side suspension No. 1 arm. Then disconnect its bolt and nut by holding the nut steady before removing the bolt. Start by taking out the 3 nuts then move on to the 3 bolts and suspension lower brace LH and subsequently the 2 bolts that disconnect the No. 3 Parking Brake Cable and then finish by taking out the 3 bolts on the suspension arm bracket LH. To remove the Shock Absorber with coil spring from the outside of the vehicle workers must press the No. 1 suspension arm LH towards the exterior.
  • Q: How to install the front shock absorber with coil springs on Scion tC?
    A:
The process starts with attaching the Shock Absorber to the steering knuckle by inserting front-side bolts from the vehicle while positioning it on the steering knuckle. After setting a wooden block between shock absorber and a jack, workers must elevate the jack while installing the upper shock absorber section to the vehicle by torquing 3 nuts to 52 Nm (530 kgf-cm, 38 ft-lbf). Proceed by installing the shock absorber onto the steering knuckle while tightening the 2 nuts to a torque of 240 Nm (2,450 kgf-cm, 177 ft-lbf) without permitting bolt movement during the torque operation. Fasten the lock nut to 47 Nm (480 kgf-cm, 35 ft-lbf) along with applying MP grease No. 2 to specified parts before fitting the suspension dust cover. The front No.1 flexible hose and speed sensor LH must have its bolt torqued at 19 Nm (194 kgf-cm, 14 ft-lbf). When assembling the front stabilizer link assembly LH to shock absorber attach the nut with 74 Nm (755 kgf-cm, 55 ft-lbf) torque using a 6 mm hexagon wrench on the stud to maintain stability when the Ball Joint rotates. Secure the front wheel through torqueing it to 103 Nm (1,050 kgf-cm, 76 ft-lbf). The installation sequence starts with the cowl top ventilator louver LH followed by the hood to cowl top seal then the front wiper arm RH and both front wiper arms LH along with their front wiper arm head caps based on needed components. The final task involves inspecting and the adjustment of front wheel alignment procedures.
