An Alternator Pulley is a small grooved wheel on the alternator shaft, the primary task of which is to transmit the belt power of the crankshaft, in such a way that the electrical system remains charged, and that taking the shake out in the case of overrunning designs. The Alternator Pulley is not difficult to replace in the Scion, the first step would be to disconnect the battery, draw a sketch of the belt, and loosen the tension to pivot the belt off. Before continuing, hold the alternator stationary and lock the rotor with the right tool and spin off the old pulley, and inspect shafts before proceeding. Install the new Alternator Pulley, tighten it to the required torque and verify the direction of the freewheel should it be an OAD. Install the belt again, adjust to the correct tension, re-attach the battery, open the engine and check to hear a smooth and quiet rotation which indicates the pulley is in alignment.
