The mechanic must first remove the front axle assembly together with the front wheel No. 1 bearing dust deflector followed by the front axle hub hole snap ring and the front axle hub. The next steps require removal of the front disc brake dust cover as well as the front axle hub bearing. Apply aluminum plates to a vise that securely holds the steering knuckle while you remove the cotter pin and nut followed by Special Service Tool: 09628-62011 to eliminate the front lower ball joint keeping the dust cover of the ball joint and steering knuckle free from damage.
