2010 Scion xB Radiator Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to install the radiator on 2010 Scion xB?
A: The installation of the radiator begins with fan shroud attachment utilizing two bolts that need torquing to 7.0 Nm (71 kgf-cm, 62 in-lbf). Begin by attaching the outlet radiator hose while installing the inlet radiator hose with proper placement of the hose clamp on the fan shroud. Mount the 2 radiator supports to the radiator afterward and position the radiator on your vehicle while connecting its Automatic Transaxle oil cooler hoses. Use 2 bolts to fasten the No. 2 fan shroud before torquing to 7.0 Nm (71 kgf-cm, 62 in-lbf) and connect the 2 fan motor connectors. The 2 radiator support cushions should be installed onto the No. 2 fan shroud before connecting outlet and inlet radiator hoses followed by securing the heated oxygen sensor wire harness clamp. Fasten the hood lock support using 4 bolts while torquing them to achieve 13 Nm (127 kgf-cm, 9 ft-lbf). Then secure the 2 hone connectors. The hood lock control cable should be installed according to the diagram while clamping onto the hood lock support. The No. 1 water hose clamp bracket needs installation along with 2 bolts which should be torqued at 5.0 Nm (51 kgf-cm, 44 in-lbf) before connecting both water hoses. Start by placing the battery tray along with battery and insulator before fastening the battery carrier with a bolt that gets torqued to 17 Nm (168 kgf-cm, 12 ft-lbf) and a nut torqued to 3.5 Nm (35 kgf-cm, 31 in-lbf) and finally attach positive and negative terminals with a torque of 5.4 Nm (55 kgf-cm, 48 in-lbf). The procedure includes adding engine coolant followed by refrigerant charging and engine engine heat up and leak inspection for refrigerant and coolant.
