2010 Scion xB Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to remove the power steering Rack And Pinion on 2010 Scion xB?
A: Seeking to remove the power steering rack and pinion requires placing front wheels in a straight position while securing the steering wheel with a seat belt for stability to protect the spiral cable from damage. The service begins by taking out the column hole cover silencer sheet followed by separating the No. 2 steering intermediate shaft assembly and disconnecting clip A to detach the No. 1 steering column hole cover sub-assembly from the body. The procedure continues with removal of front wheels together with No. 1 and No. 2 rear engine under covers and LH and RH front suspension member reinforcement. This removal process applies uniformly to both sides. The technician will use Special Service Tool 09960-20010 to separate the tie rod end sub-assembly LH or RH by first removing the cotter pin and nut before ensuring the alignment with upper ends using the following tool combination: Special Service Tool 09960-20010 and Special Service Tool 09961-02010. While performing this task they must avoid damaging either the front disc brake dust cover or ball joint dust cover or the steering knuckle. The technician should start by separating the front lower suspension arm sub-assemblies LH and RH followed by removing front suspension member rear braces LH and RH using the same procedure before taking off the front suspension crossmember sub-assembly. Take off the No. 1 steering column hole cover sub-assembly from the steering link assembly before placing matchmarks on the steering intermediate shaft and steering link assembly and removing the bolt along with the steering intermediate shaft. To remove the steering link assembly, unscrew two bolts and two nuts while avoiding turning the nuts before securing it in a vise with Special Service Tool: 09612-00012 while taping the tool for protection. Then take out tie rod end sub-assemblies LH and RH, making markings for their future reinstallation.
