  • Q: How to install the timing chain on 2009 Toyota Yaris?
A: The installation process for 1NZ-FE timing chain starts with proper alignment of TDC timing marks yet note that valve spring force might alter these positions. Position the crankshaft timing mark to appear between 40 to 140 degrees ATDC. The camshaft timing gear and sprocket should be set at 20 degrees ATDC before the installation process. ATDC, aligning the crankshaft similarly. Use two bolts to install Chain Vibration Damper No. 1 and torque them to 9.0 Nm (92 kgf-cm, 80 in-lbf) while aligning the camshaft timing marks with the timing chain mark plates through hexagonal service portion rotation with a wrench. After attaching the chain tensioner slipper you should install chain tensioner assembly No. 1 with 2 bolts that get torqued to 9.0 Nm (92 kgf-cm, 80 in-lbf) before pulling out the bar from the assembly. Afterward place the oil pump seal along with the oil pump assembly followed by the transverse engine mounting bracket and the water pump assembly together with the water pump pulley before setting the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly and the crankshaft position sensor along with the crankshaft damper sub-assembly and the engine mounting insulator sub-assembly RH and the cylinder head cover sub-assembly before you can connect ventilation hoses. Place ignition coil No. 1 along with generator assembly then add fan and generator V belt. Perform belt inspection and necessary tensioning process before proceeding. Done when the technician completes the installation of the front wheel RH and cylinder head cover No. 2 and engine under cover RH while torquing them to 103 Nm (1050 kgf-cm, 76 ft-lbf).
