  • Q: How to install the timing chain on 2008 Toyota Yaris?
A: Before placing and tightening the timing chain on the 1NZ-FE engine validate that all timing marks exist at Top Dead Center position. Remember that valve spring tension alters timing marks during installation. Position the crankshaft timing mark between 40 and 140 degrees ATDC. You must put the camshaft gear and sprocket 20 degrees ATDC. ATDC, aligning the crankshaft similarly. Install chain vibration damper No. 1 with thread 2 bolts reaching 9.0 Nm torque after lining up the camshaft timing marks from the timing chain mark plates during camshaft hexagonal service portion rotation and wrench action. Secure the chain tensioner slipper before placing chain tensioner assembly No. 1 with 2 bolts at 9.0 Nm (92 kgf-cm, 80 in-lbf) torque. Then remove the bar from the tensioner. You should install oil pump seal and oil pump assembly afterward place the transverse engine mounting bracket and water pump assembly including its pulley and valve assembly. Lastly place each individual item like the crankshaft position sensor, crankshaft damper sub assembly, engine mount insulator RH and head cover assemblies before connecting venting hoses. Place ignition coil No. 1, generator assembly, and fan and generator V belt while making sure the belt works as designed. End by connecting the cable to the negative battery terminal with a 5.4 Nm torque and ensuring proper engine oil and coolant supply. Also check oil level and hunt for any fluid leaks after engine start-up. Complete your installation process by putting on cylinder head cover No. 2 then engine under cover RH and front wheel RH while tightening them to 103 Nm (1050 kgf-cm, 76 ft-lbf).
