2010 Toyota Yaris Timing Chain Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to remove the timing chain on 2010 Toyota Yaris?
A: The removal process for the timing chain of the 1NZ-FE engine demands you start with disconnecting the negative battery terminal cable followed by removing both the front right wheel and the right hand engine under cover. Draining oil and coolant precedes extracting the cylinder head cover No. 2, fan & generator V belt, generator assembly, ignition coil No. 1, along with both ventilation hoses. The sequential order for removal includes both cylinder head cover sub-assembly and engine mounting insulator sub-assembly RH, crankshaft damper sub-assembly, crankshaft position sensor, camshaft timing oil control valve assembly, water pump pulley, and water pump assembly. You should start by removing the transverse engine mounting bracket together with the oil pump assembly and its accompanying oil pump seal. You must perform chain tensioner assembly No. 1 removal by refraining from crankshaft rotation after tensioner uninstallation and starting the camshaft rotation process by first setting the crankshaft to 40 degrees counterclockwise from TDC position. To manage chain tensioner assembly No.1 push the plunger toward the end before unlocking the plunger and then pull down the stopper plate while keeping the plunger at the end position before locking the plunger. A 3 mm diameter (0.12 in.) bar should be inserted through the stopper plate hole to lock the plunger prior to removing the chain tensioner assembly No.1 by removing its two bolts. The chain tensioner slipper and chain vibration damper No. 1 needs removal following the disconnection of 2 bolts before chain sub-assembly extraction.
