2010 Toyota Yaris Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to install the timing chain on 2010 Toyota Yaris?
A: The first step for installing the timing chain on a 1NZ-FE engine requires you to position all timing marks at Top Dead Center and note that the marks could shift because of valve spring force. Arrange the crankshaft timing mark within the 40 to 140 degrees range of ATDC position. The camshaft timing gear along with sprocket should be placed at 20 degrees ATDC. ATDC, aligning the crankshaft similarly. Use 2 bolts to install chain vibration damper No. 1 and torque them to 9.0 Nm (92 kgf-cm, 80 in-lbf) before turning the camshaft through its hexagonal service portion while aligning the timing marks with the plates of the timing chain mark. The chain tensioner slipper installation should be followed by attaching chain tensioner assembly No. 1 using 2 bolts while torquing them to 9.0 Nm (92 kgf-cm, 80 in-lbf). Finally, remove the bar from the tensioner assembly. The installation sequence continues with the order of oil pump seal then oil pump assembly followed by transverse engine mounting bracket then water pump assembly including water pump pulley and camshaft timing oil control valve assembly then crankshaft position sensor and crankshaft damper sub-assembly and ending with engine mounting insulator sub-assembly RH then cylinder head cover sub-assembly and ventilation hoses connection. Installation of ignition coil No. 1 requires a generator assembly and fan & generator V belt with necessary belt adjustment and inspection. Finally check the engine oil level then inspect for leaks before you install the front wheel RH, cylinder head cover No. 2 and engine under cover RH, torquing them at 103 Nm (1050 kgf-cm, 76 ft-lbf).
