2009 Toyota Tundra Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to remove the water pump on 2009 Toyota Tundra?
A: The water pump removal begins with eliminating the No. 1 engine under cover before draining engine coolant. Disassemble the V-bank cover after disconnecting the radiator hose at both inlet and outlet ports. Starting with the fan shroud and the No. 2 air cleaner hose removal procedure moves to taking out the air cleaner assembly combined with its element. The first step is to disconnect two oil cooler hoses followed by five water by-pass hoses for water inlet housing removal. Afterward remove five bolts securing the water inlet before extracting the gaskets between the water outlet pipe and the water pump. The procedure for removing both No. 2 idler pulleys remains the same except when equipped with cover plates where bolts, cover and pulley must be removed while non-equipped vehicles only need bolt removal. The next step involves taking out the V-ribbed belt tensioner assembly combined with the generator assembly. The water pump assembly can be removed after unbolting the 17 attachments then removing the pump together with the gasket.
