2009 Toyota Tundra Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to remove and replace the rear leaf spring on 2009 Toyota Tundra?
A: The first step for replacing or removing the rear leaf spring requires body support through safety stands while the vehicle rests on jack stands. The procedure requires lowering the axle housing until leaf spring tension is released before you hold this position. The next step involves taking off the spare tire together with the rear wheel. Unfasten the No. 3 parking brake cable assembly at three bolts before severing it from the car body. First set the rear axle housing on a jack with a wooden block near the support to avoid damage before unbolting and detaching the rear shock absorber assembly on the left-hand side. Begin by removing the rear spring U bolt after unthreading 4 nuts and removing 4 washers together with a spring seat followed by the 2 U bolts. First remove the nut along with its washer and bolt from the front part of the spring assembly before removing the sub-assembly of the bumper and finally taking off the rear spring assembly on the left-hand side through removal of its rearward components consisting of the 2 nuts, 2 washers, shackle outer plate, No. 2 spring shackle plate and leaf spring. A brass bar with a hammer must be used to extract the tube from the frame while the frame receives the removal of its two rear spring shackle bushes.
