The first step for installing a park/neutral position switch assembly for the A340E automatic transmission involves attaching the switch to the manual valve lever shaft using an adjusting bolt which should be tightened loosely. After placing the grommet the new lock washer and the nut must be installed while maintaining torque at 6.9 Nm (70 kgf-cm, 61 in-lbf). The manual lever shaft should go through the groove and be turned two notches to the left until reaching neutral position. Apply 13 Nm (130 kgf-cm, 9 ft-lbf) torque to the adjusting bolt while the basic line of the groove faces the switch. Deform at least two tabs of the lock washer. Follow by joining the park/neutral position switch connector before installing the cable to the negative battery terminal with 3.9 Nm torque (40 kgf-cm, 35 in-lbf). Complete the inspection of park/neutral position switch assembly then adjust the shift lever position when needed.
