2009 Toyota Highlander Rack And Pinion Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to remove the power steering Rack And Pinion on 2009 Toyota Highlander?
A: Open the front steering wheels before fastening the steering wheel to the seat belt to prevent rotation during power steering rack and pinion removal. Spiral cable damage must be avoided at all times. The front wheels then require removal before proceeding with extraction of the No. 1 engine under cover, No. 2 engine under cover, and floor under cover LH. The front stabilizer link assembly operation follows the same procedure with the separation of the LH unit preceding the RH unit. Separate the bolt that slides the steering intermediate shaft assembly but maintain the linkage between the power steering assembly while you place matchmarks on both units. To separate the tie rod assembly LH remove the nut along with the cotter pin while installing Special Service Tool: 09960-20010 to the tie rod end which must be placed at the upper section. A technician should use Special Service Tools 09960-20010 09961-02010 to unfasten the tie rod end from the steering knuckle at a precise angle where the tool stays protected with a string while without damaging the front disc brake dust cover and steering knuckle and ball joint dust cover. Reperform the exact procedure for the tie rod assembly RH. Depart the LH No.1 front stabilizer bracket through 2 bolt removal and afterward remove its mirror image bracket on the right side. Begin by detaching the front stabilizer bar with bracket before you can extract the power steering link assembly through the removal of its 2 bolts and 2 nuts. Pull it out toward the left vehicle side as you lift the front stabilizer bar. The last procedure requires marking the tie rod assembly LH and the steering rack end sub-assembly before unscrewing the lock nut to detach both components. Perform these same steps on the tie rod assembly RH.
