Q: How to Service and Repair a Fuel Pressure Regulator on 2009 Toyota Highlander?
A: Start the fuel pressure regulator removal process by taking out the fuel suction tube assembly with pump and gauge while protecting the welded tube from disconnection from the plate. The fuel suction plate sub-assembly with fuel filter extraction begins by using needle nozzle pliers to detach the E-ring then disconnect the fuel pump harness connector and unfasten the 2 claws of the No. 1 fuel suction support. Then use a screwdriver with protective tape to take off the spring from the fuel suction plate and also break the claw of the jet pump nozzle before extracting the fuel pump filter hose. A screwdriver with tape-wrapped tip can be used to remove the 5 claws on the filter which will enable extraction of the fuel pump but users should avoid damaging the fuel filter or suction filter. After disconnection of the fuel pump connector with its harness you should carefully separate the O-ring and spacer from the fuel pump while maintaining the sealing surface free from harm. A wire tip (1.0 millimeter in diameter) can be used to retrieve the O-ring when it stays inside the fuel filter. You need to disengage both claws on the filter until you successfully remove the No. 1 fuel suction support. The last step requires removal of the fuel pressure regulator assembly from the fuel filter and subsequent removal of its two O-rings.
