2009 Toyota FJ Cruiser Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to remove and replace the Rack And Pinion on 2009 Toyota FJ Cruiser?
A: Before replacing the power steering link for 2WD you must disconnect the negative cable to the battery terminal while steering your vehicle to a forward straight position. Start the procedure by taking out the No.1 engine under cover sub-assembly followed by the fan and generator V belt. The next step requires fixing and belting the steering wheel to prevent rotation while placing matchmarks on three components before removing bolts A and B from the steering sliding yoke. The yoke should then be slid upward to detach from the No. 2 steering intermediate shaft before being pulled downward to remove. You should start by adding matchmarks to both the No.2 steering intermediate shaft and rack and pinion then remove bolt C and slide up to disconnect them. The LH tie rod end sub-assembly separation requires removal of the pin and nut followed by application of Special Service Tool: 09628-62011 to disconnect the tie rod end from the steering knuckle arm. Apply the same steps to disconnect the RH side equipment. The pressure feed tube procedure requires removal of two support brackets' bolts followed by employing Special Service Tool: 09023-12701 to loosen the flare nut for pressure tube separation and unclipping the return hose. Begin removal by unscrewing the 4 cooler compressor bolts followed by removing the rack and pinion by unfastening first its two bolts and two nuts so you can complete the disassembly operation by turning the bolt only and tilting the transmission.
