2009 Toyota Corolla Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to remove the rear Crankshaft Seal on 2009 Toyota Corolla?
A: The process to remove the 2ZR-FE engine rear crankshaft oil seal begins with removal of the engine assembly along with the transaxle. The manual transaxle assembly must be removed for a manual transaxle system while an automatic transaxle requires removal of its automatic transaxle assembly. A manual transaxle requires removing the clutch cover assembly followed by the clutch disc assembly before proceeding to remove the flywheel sub-assembly by using Special Service Tool: 09213-58013 09330-00021 to hold the crankshaft, ensuring the tool's fixing bolts avoid contacting the timing chain cover sub-assembly while you remove the 8 bolts and flywheel. Use the same Special Service Tool to hold the crankshaft during the removal of an automatic transaxle drive plate and ring gear sub-assembly and then proceed by taking out the 8 bolts and rear spacer and drive plate and front spacer. The removal of the rear engine oil seal requires a knife to cut off its lip then a taped screwdriver for prying out the seal while inspecting the crankshaft for damage followed by sanding damaged areas with 400-grit sandpaper.
