2009 Toyota 4Runner Exhaust Pipe Parts Q&A
Q: How to install the exhaust pipe and its components on 2009 Toyota 4Runner?
A: The installation of the exhaust pipe begins with attaching the heated oxygen sensor for Bank 2 to the exhaust pipe front while applying 44 Nm (450 kgf-cm, 33 ft-lbf) torque and connecting the sensor connector and inspecting the wire for twisting; re-install the sensor if twisting occurs. You must first apply the front pipe to the exhaust manifold after placing a new gasket and then tighten the exhaust pipe front with 2 nuts at 62 Nm (630 kgf-cm, 46 ft-lbf). Apply the same torque specifications while repeating the check on the wires for the heated oxygen sensor of Bank 1. To assembly the No. 2 exhaust front pipe you need two new gaskets and should install it to the exhaust manifold using 2 bolts and 2 nuts tightened to 62 Nm (630 kgf-cm, 46 ft-lbf) for the nuts and 48 Nm (490 kgf-cm, 35 ft-lbf) for the bolts. Proceed to measure the compression spring length with the vernier caliper before installation to validate its free length minimum requirement of 40.5 mm (4.5645 in.); replace the spring if it falls below this limit. Affix the exhaust pipe assembly front with new gasket and fasten 2 bolts and 2 springs through tightening them to 43 Nm (440 kgf-cm, 32 ft-lbf). A new gasket should be installed on the exhaust pipe center before attaching the tail pipe using 2 bolts torqued to 48 Nm (490 kgf-cm, 35 ft-lbf). Check for exhaust gas leaks.
