• Q: How to remove the exhaust manifold on 2009 Scion xD?

  A: The Air Fuel Ratio Sensor must be eliminated as the first step to extract the exhaust manifold from a 2ZR-FE engine. The first step involves removing the right-hand-side engine under cover then continuing with the front exhaust pipe assembly dismantlement. Automatic transaxle fluid needs to be drained on models with automatic transmissions while manual transmission models require a drain of their manual transaxle oil. The front wheel removal process begins with the front axle shaft right-hand nut removal followed by extraction of the front speed sensor on the right-hand side. Move to disconnect the tie rod end sub-assembly from the right-hand side before removing the front stabilizer link assembly from the right-hand side. To start the installation disconnect both the No. 1 front lower suspension arm sub-assembly on the right-hand side and the front axle assembly on the right-hand side. The right-hand drive shaft assembly should be removed before you detach the No. 1 exhaust manifold heat insulator with its 4 mounting bolts. Move on to the next step by unbolting three points from the manifold stay then removing the exhaust manifold by unfastening its 5 nuts. To complete the task remove the No. 2 exhaust manifold heat insulator through the disassembly of three bolts.
