2009 Scion tC Knock Sensor Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to remove the Knock Sensor on 2009 Scion tC?
A: The first step to remove the Knock Sensor from a 2AZ-FE engine control system starts with discharging fuel system pressure. Before proceeding drain all coolant while disconnecting the negative cable terminal and wait at least 90 seconds to stop activation of Air Bags and seat belts pretensioners. Begin by taking out the wiper arm head cap and front wiper arms (both left-hand and right-hand sides) and hood to cowl top seal and finally the cowl top ventilator louver on the left-hand side. Use the wire harness clamp and 7 bolts to detach the wiper link and cowl top panel outer. The cowl body mounting bracket lower (LH) should be removed through the process of unbolting then extracting the clip and bracket. Then remove the engine cover together with the air cleaner cap and the throttle body and the fuel delivery pipe. When working with the fuel tube disconnect the clamp then use fingers to pinch the retainer to extract the connector from the pipe without letting any debris across the tube path. Disconnect the hoses that supply and drain heater water from both units. Choke off the intake manifold by detaching connections from the brake booster union to check valve hose and camshaft timing oil control valve connector and wire harness clamp followed by union removal from vacuum hose clamp before taking out the 5 bolts, 2 nuts, intake manifold and its associated gasket. The process ends by disconnecting the sensor connector and removing the sensor nut along with the sensor by taking out the intake manifold insulator located on the cylinder block.
