2009 Scion tC Knock Sensor Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to install the knock sensor and related components on 2009 Scion tC?
A: Secure the knock sensor using the nut while maintaining proper orientation before connecting its sensor connector and torquing it to 20 Nm (205 kgf-cm, 15 ft-lbf). After installing the intake manifold insulator on the cylinder block the mechanic will position a fresh gasket into place before tightening the 5 bolts and 2 nuts at 30 Nm (305 kgf-cm, 22 ft-lbf) torque specification. The installation requires positioning the union to check valve hose into the vacuum hose clamp while you should attach the wire harness clamp along with connecting the camshaft timing oil control valve connector followed by uniting the union to check valve hose with the brake booster while ensuring correct paint mark position and hose clamp level. Attach the heater water outlet hose to a water by-pass pipe and heater radiator unit before adding the heater water inlet hose to the cylinder head and heater radiator unit while retaining both using hose clamps at the proper angle. Press and snap the fuel tube connector into the pipe while inspecting for damage to both parts after each connection. Screw in the bolt and put on the clip to the cowl body mounting bracket lower LH with 13 Nm (135 kgf-cm, 10 ft-lbf) torque while you also install the cowl top panel outer with 7 bolts at this torque level and the wire harness clamp. Before attachment of the cable to the negative battery terminal the vehicle requires engine coolant addition while inspecting for engine coolant and fuel leakage. The mechanic must complete the installation process by installing the engine cover as well as the cowl top ventilator louver LH before applying the hood to cowl top seal and both front wiper arms LH and RH. Front wiper arm head caps should be removed for initialization and specific systems require post-battery terminal cable cut initialization.
