2008 Toyota Tacoma Leaf Spring Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to install the rear leaf spring on 2008 Toyota Tacoma?
A: The first step to installing the rear leaf spring starts with the installation of rear spring shackle sub-assembly Number 2 with through bolt, washer and nut. Install the rear leaf spring into the axle housing by placing its hole over the spring center bolt head then fasten it with a through bolt, washer, and nut. The installation of the rear spring U bolt for 2WD starts with placing the spring seat followed by 2 U-bolts, 4 washers, and 4 nuts which should be tightened to a torque of 50 Nm (510 kgf-cm, 37 ft-lbf) while maintaining equal length between all U-bolts under the spring seat. To install the spring bumper on 4WD and Pre-Runner vehicles, users must start with the spring seat followed by 2 U-bolts, 4 washers and 4 nuts. Torque all of these components to 50 Nm (510 kgf-cm, 37 ft-lbf) before making sure that U-bolt lengths are equivalent. The rear spring bumper No.1 of 2WD requires 2 nuts which must be torqued to 15 Nm (153 kgf-cm, 11 ft-lbf). The parking brake cable assembly No. 3 requires installation by torquing the bolt to 12.5 Nm (127 kgf-cm, 9 ft-lbf). After bolting the rear shock absorber and attaching its nut and washer you should install the rear wheel and torque it to 113 Nm (1,152 kgf-cm, 83 ft-lbf). Numerous bounce cycles while the vehicle is on a jack stand will stabilize the suspension before tightening everything to specification. The completion of the installation requires fitting the spare tire for 4WD and Pre-Runner.
