2009 Toyota Tacoma Leaf Spring Parts Q&A
Q: How to install the rear leaf spring on 2009 Toyota Tacoma?
A: The rear leaf spring installation should start with rear spring shackle sub-assembly No. 2 through bolt washer combination using the through bolt and washer followed by the nut. Next position the rear leaf spring into the rear axle housing where the hole aligns with the center bolt head then fasten it with the through bolt combined with washer and nut. The procedure for 2WD consists of installing the rear spring U-bolt together with spring seat and 2 U-bolts and 4 washers and 4 nuts which need to be torqued to 50 Nm (510 kgf-cm, 37 ft-lbf) until spring seat U-bolts reach equal lengths. First apply the spring bumper on 4WD and Pre-Runner before setting the spring seat and 2 U-bolts along with 4 washers and 4 nuts at a torque of 50 Nm (510 kgf-cm, 37 ft-lbf) with equal U-bolt lengths. Secure the rear spring bumper No. 1 to 2WD vehicles with 2 nuts tightened to 15 Nm (153 kgf-cm, 11 ft-lbf). Attach parking brake cable assembly No. 3 using a bolt with 12.5 Nm torque corresponding to 127 kgf-cm or 9 ft-lbf. The correct procedure includes mounting first the rear shock absorber along with its bolt and nut assembly and washer then tightening the rear wheel with a torque of 113 Nm (1,152 kgf-cm, 83 ft-lbf). The rear suspension needs suspension stabilization through vehicle jacking while bouncing the vehicle multiple times before tightening all nuts and bolts of the rear suspension system. Proceed with installing the spare tire that both 4WD and Pre-Runner models use.
