2009 Toyota Tacoma Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to remove and replace the rear leaf spring on 2009 Toyota Tacoma?
A: The first step to replace or remove a rear leaf spring begins by taking off the rear wheel followed by removing the extra tire on 4WD and Pre-Runner models. Start by securing the rear axle housing before you remove the shock absorber bolt and washer together with its accompanying nut. 2WD requires shock absorber removal from the rear spring seat whereas 4WD and Pre-Runner models need a separate shock absorber extraction from the rear axle housing. The next step requires hooking out the bolt from the parking brake cable assembly No. 3 before separating the cable. The front restoration for 2WD begins with disassembling the rear spring bumper No. 1 through its 2 nuts followed by the removal of the bumper and the subsequent removal of the rear spring U bolt with its 4 nuts and 4 washers preceding the spring seat and 2 U-bolts extraction. To detach the rear spring U bolt for both 4WD and Pre-Runner models follow the process of removing 4 nuts and 4 washers before you can eliminate the spring seat and 2 U-bolts and spring bumper. First separate the rear leaf spring through the process of removing its nut along with washer and through bolt while avoiding spring drop during this step until complete removal. Finish the project by removing the rear spring shackle sub-assembly No. 2 since it requires removal of the nut then washer followed by the through bolt afterward shackle extraction.
