2008 Toyota Solara Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to reassemble the power steering pump on 2008 Toyota Solara?
A: The power steering pump reassembly for the 2AZ-FE vane pump starts with installing a new housing oil seal that receives power steering fluid on its lip before positioning it correctly with Special Service Tools: 09950-60010 09951-00280 through a press operation. Apply power steering fluid onto the bushing surface of the housing front and then carefully place the w/pulley shaft sub-assembly into position without harming the oil seal lip and verifying its proper orientation. Install a new O-ring which received power steering fluid treatment to the housing front and another O-ring to the side plate front before complexing the dent of each part for installation. First install the cam ring with its inscribed mark toward the top and ensure full alignment between its dent and the side plate front. The direction of the vane pump rotor does not matter so coat all 10 plates of the rotor with power steering fluid prior to installing them with the round end opening to the outside. A combination of screwdriver and snap ring expander will assist in installing the new snap ring onto the w/pulley shaft sub-assembly. Associate the straight pin of the housing rear to the dents of the cam ring and side plate front and housing front while securing all components with 4 bolts at 22 Nm (224 kgf-cm, 16 ft-lbf). The valve installation sequence begins with applying power steering fluid to a new O-ring and placing it on the switch before the switch gets attached to the vane pump assembly with proper torque application to 21 Nm. Place power steering fluid on the flow control valve and compression spring before installing them. Add new O-ring coating with power steering fluid to the pressure port union before securing it with 69 Nm (704 kgf-cm, 51 ft-lbf) torque. To finish the installation place a new O-ring in power steering fluid before mounting it on the suction port union where a bolt requires 12 Nm (122 kgf-cm, 9 ft-lbf) torque.
