2007 Toyota Solara Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the power steering pump on 2007 Toyota Solara?
A: Begin the power steering pump repair by firstly draining power steering fluid then use proper steps to take out the front right-hand wheel. The service and repair process starts with right front fender apron seal removal and a fan and generator V belt detaching system followed by unclipping and separating oil reservoir to pump hose No.1. Avoid letting fluid droplets fall onto the V belt. The pressure port union requires use of a 27 mm wrench to stabilize it so you can remove the union bolt along with the gasket from the assembly. You can remove the vane pump assembly by disconnecting the oil pressure switch connector followed by using Special Service Tool: 09249-63010 to loosen bolt A (without removing the bolt) while also removing bolt B. Start disassembly of the vane pump assembly by locking it in a vise with Special Service Tool: 09630-00014 (09631-00132) then uninstall the power steering suction port union and O-ring and the flow control valve with its O-ring and power steering oil pressure switch keeping damaged parts for replacement. Begin by removing the four bolts with the O-ring followed by disconnecting the w/pulley shaft subassembly by removing the snap ring. Proceed to remove the vane pump plates then take off the vane pump cam ring and finally detach the front side plate with its O-rings. Remove the housing oil seal from its position but preserve the intact state of the housing front. Check the vane pump shaft and bush in the housing front for oil clearance because excessive measurement of 0.07 mm (0.0028 inch) is unacceptable. Measuring the vane pump plate thickness from 1.405 to 1.411 mm (0.05531 to 0.05555 inch) while checking that the vane pump rotor groove clearance with the vane plates stays below 0.03 mm (0.0012 inch) needs to be done. A smooth operation and leakage test should be conducted on the flow control valve together with a measurement of the compression spring free length that must exceed 36.9 mm (1.453 inch). Check that the pressure port union shows no damage while confirming that the pump operates smoothly and emits no sounds during rotation. The mount installation requires a new housing oil seal pre-coated in power steering fluid while using Special Service Tool: 09950-60010 (09951-00280), 09950-70010 (09951-07100) and a press along with correct orientation. Insert the w/pulley shaft subassembly into position while paying attention to the oil seal lip and then install the front side plate containing new O-rings that have been dipped in power steering fluid. First install the vane pump rotor inside the cam ring and then add the snap ring to finish the installation of the w/pulley shaft subassembly. The rear housing must receive a new O-ring with precision alignment before tightening it to 22 Nm (224 kgf-cm, 16 ft. lbs.). First install the power steering oil pressure switch with a new O-ring while torquing it to 21 Nm (214 kgf-cm, 16 ft. lbs.). Then install the flow control valve along with its components using appropriate torques such as 69 Nm (704 kgf-cm, 51 ft. lbs.) for the pressure port union and 12 Nm (122 kgf-cm, 9 ft. lbs.) for the suction port union. Complete the vane pump installation by temporarily tightening bolt A followed by secure bolt B to 37 Nm (377 kgf-cm, 27 ft. lbs.). Then torque bolt A to 26 Nm (264 kgf-cm, 19 ft. lbs.) while using the specified torque wrench. The next step includes joining the oil pressure switch connector while you add a new gasket to the pressure feed tube assembly before torquing the union bolt to 52 Nm (525 kgf-cm, 38 ft. lbs.). Follow this step by reattaching the oil reservoir to pump hose No.1 and installing the fan and generator V belt and the front fender apron seal and the front wheel while torquing them to 103 Nm (1,050 kgf-cm, 76 ft. lbs.). Inspection for fluid leaks should follow a bleeding procedure for power steering fluid.
