2008 Toyota RAV4 Exhaust Pipe Parts Q&A
Q: How to install the exhaust pipe on 2008 Toyota RAV4?
A: The installation of the 2AZ-FE engine exhaust pipe requires measuring the compression spring free length with a vernier caliper. If the length is lower than 41.5 mm (1.634 in.) the spring needs replacement. Place the new gasket by hand with its right direction facing the exhaust manifold before attaching the front exhaust pipe with 2 compression springs placed underneath 2 bolts reaching 43 Nm (438 kgf-cm, 32 ft-lbf) torque. Follow by applying the front exhaust pipe new gasket then connect the 3 exhaust pipe supports before installing the center exhaust pipe by torquing its 2 bolts to 43 Nm (438 kgf-cm, 32 ft-lbf). Users must check the compression spring free length in the tailpipe assembly because replacing the spring becomes necessary when the measurement is below 38.5 mm (1.516 inches). Place the new gasket on the center exhaust pipe by hand so it rests directly on the surface while facing the intended direction and avoid using old gaskets or pushing it into position while attaching the tailpipe mounting bracket. Add the exhaust pipe supports together before placing the tailpipe in position and securing it using 2 compression springs that need tightening to 43 Nm (438 kgf-cm, 32 ft-lbf) along with 2 bolts. The Bank 1 Sensor 2 heated oxygen sensor needs installation followed by connecting the negative battery cable and inspecting exhaust gas leakage while tightening weak areas and replacing broken components.
