2008 Toyota Matrix Axle Shaft Parts Q&A
Q: How to disassemble the axle shaft on 2008 Toyota Matrix?
A: To take apart the front drive shaft you must first detach the No. 2 front axle inboard joint boot LH clamp with needle nose pliers and then cut the clamp with a side cutter before removing the piece. First detach the inboard joint boot from the inboard joint sub-assembly LH. Clean off the old grease from both parts while matching their positions but do not make holes in the inboard joint sub-assembly LH and outboard joint shaft assembly. After using a snap ring expander tool to remove the inner snap ring you need to place matchmarks on both parts of the outboard joint shaft assembly and tripod joint assembly. Use the brass bar to gently separate the tripod from outboard joint shaft using a hammer. Keep away from rolling component. Unfasten the LH boots clamp No.2 and take out the inboard joint boot along with its clamps. Apply the side cutter to the drive shaft damper setting clamp and remove the drive shaft damper. Use pliers to detach both No. 2 front axle outboard joint boot straps and front axle outboard joint boot straps prior to eliminating their respective outboard joint boots. Apply a screwdriver to remove the LH snap ring and deploy Special Service Tool 09950-00020 and a press to take out the dust cover LH while keeping the inboard joint safe from falling. We should repeat this dust cover removal method on the right-hand side component.
