2008 Toyota Land Cruiser Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to disassemble the power steering pump on 2008 Toyota Land Cruiser?
A: The first step for power steering pump disassembly requires the vane pump assembly to be fixed within a vise using Special Service Tool: 09630-00014 09631-00132. The vane pump suction port union bolt and suction port union must be removed and an O-ring extracted from the suction port union through the use of a screwdriver. First remove the pressure port union and afterwards extract the O-ring from the pressure port union before removing the flow control valve and compression spring. Remove the rear housing from the front housing by uninstalling the 4 bolts and withdraw the O-ring using a screwdriver which requires tape protection on the screwdriver tip. First take out the snap ring from the vane pump shaft using two screwdrivers before extracting the shaft together with the vane pump pulley. The handler must be cautious not to drop or harm it because damaged components require a complete vane pump assembly replacement. First carefully uninstall the ten vane pump plates to prevent drops before uninstalling the vane pump rotor. The sequence involves removing the cam ring from the front housing while next removing the front side plate with screwdriver assistance to extract both the O-ring found in the front side plate and in the front housing simultaneously. When removing the housing oil seal use a screwdriver together with a cloth piece while exercising careful front housing protection during the operation.
