2008 Toyota FJ Cruiser Power Steering Pump Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to disassemble the Power Steering Pump on 2008 Toyota FJ Cruiser?
A: The disassembly of the power steering vane pump starts with a vise fixture of the vane pump assembly through Special Service Tool: 09630-00014 09631-00132 while making sure not to apply excessive force. The first step includes eliminating the bolt and suction port union while extracting the O-ring from the suction port union. Open the vane pump assembly in a vise using Special Service Tool: 09630-00014 09631-00132 like a gentlegrip and then extract in this order: pressure port union and its O-ring and flow control valve together with compression spring. Cautiously remove the power steering oil pressure switch while keeping it from damage or drop; perform replacement if replacement is required. Remove the vane pump rear housing to front connection bolts one at a time while extracting the O-ring present in the front housing. This procedure for removing the pulley shaft sub-assembly requires a screwdriver to disconnect the snap ring before removing the pulley shaft while maintaining its safety against damage. Take out the ten vane plates followed by the vane pump rotor and then the vane pump cam ring. The front side plate of the vane pump housing front must be detached during which time both the side plate O-ring and the front housing O-ring need removal. A screwdriver should be used to extract the oil seal from the vane pump housing front while being cautious not to harm it.
