2008 Toyota Avalon Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to install the water pump assembly on 2008 Toyota Avalon?
A: Start the cooling system water pump installation by placing a fresh gasket under the water pump assembly then using 16 bolts to fasten it with a 21 Nm torque (214 kgf-cm, 15 ft-lbf) and 9.1 Nm torque (93 kgf-cm, 81 in-lbf). Install new C bolts in place of the existing ones and apply adhesive 1344 (part no 08833-00080, THREE BOND 1344 or equivalent) both times before reusing them. Keep A bolts threads free from oil. Install the vane pump first then follow by the idler pulley subassembly No.2 and tighten the left-hand bolt to 43 Nm. Place the idler pulley cover plate No.2 into position then bolt and torque the parts at 43 Nm (438 kgf-cm, 32 ft-lbf). Thread temporarily the four water pump pulley bolts until you use Special Service Tool: 09960-10010, 09962-01000, and 09963-00700 to keep the pulley steady during 21 Nm (214 kgf-cm) bolt torquing. For installing the crankshaft pulley you need Special Service Tools including 09213-70020, 09213-70011, 09950-50013, 09330-00021, 09951-05010, 09952-05010, 09953-05020, and 09954-05021. Place a new water inlet housing No.1 gasket and water outlet pipe O-ring on the inlet and use 2 bolts with a nut to attach it. Torque bolts to 10 Nm (102 kgf-cm, 7 ft-lbf) while verifying the O-ring does not get trapped. Place the engine mounting bracket front No.1 LH followed by engine mounting control bracket, engine moving control rod, V-bank cover sub-assembly, fan and generator V belt, and radiator hose outlet in their proper locations. Place engine coolant into the system before checking for leaks and fitting the engine under cover right and front wheel right.
