2007 Toyota Avalon Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the water pump on 2007 Toyota Avalon?
A: Service or repair operations for the water pump should start with draining the engine coolant followed by removing the front right wheel engine under cover V-bank cover sub-assembly and three components that include the engine moving control rod engine mounting control bracket and engine mounting bracket front No.1 left-hand side. Service the water pump by starting with the removal of the fan and generator V belt followed by the radiator hose outlet separation and final step includes water inlet housing extraction by disconnecting the water hose and unfastening 2 bolts and nut then removing the housing together with the water inlet housing gasket No.1 and water outlet pipe O-ring. Use terminals 09213-70011 (09213-70020), 09330-00021, 09950-50013 (09951-05010, 09952-05010, 09953-05020, 09954-05021) to detach the crankshaft pulley followed by water pump pulley detachment using Special Service Tool: 09960-10010 (09962-01000, 09963-00700) to support pulley removal of its four bolts. Next remove the left-hand threaded bolt of idler pulley sub-assembly No.2 while separating the vane pump assembly before extracting the water pump assembly by taking out its 16 bolts and gasket together. Check the water pump assembly for coolant leakage before evaluating its bearing movement smoothness. Replace the assembly when necessary. The installation of the water pump gasket and assembly requires torque to 21 N m (214 kgf/cm, 15 ft. lbs.) on Bolt A and 9.1 N m (93 kgf/cm, 81 in. lbs.) on Bolts B and C. Also verify that A Bolts have no trace of oil before replacing C Bolts with new or reusing them with adhesive 1344 (Part No. 08833-00080). Begin with vane pump assembly installation then proceed to idler pulley sub-assembly No.2 using a left-hand threaded bolt that requires 43 N m (438 kgf/cm, 32 ft. lbs.) and a cover plate torque equal to this value. Mount the water pump pulley with its four bolts while holding Special Service Tool: 09960-10010 (09962-01000, 09963-00700) before torquing bolts to 21 N m (214 kgf/cm, 15 ft. lbs.). Reinstate the crankshaft pulley through use of the same special service tools but install the water inlet housing with both new gasket and O-ring by torquing to 10 N m (102 kgf/cm, 7 ft. lbs.) while making sure the O-ring remains unpinched. Install the V-bank cover sub-assembly as well as engine moving control rod, engine mounting control bracket, engine mounting bracket front No.1 left-hand side, fan and generator V belt, radiator hose outlet before securing the V-bank cover sub-assembly and engine moving control rod together with torque of 20 N m. Before finishing install the engine under cover and front right wheel you should perform an inspection for leaks while adding engine coolant.
