2008 Toyota Avalon Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to remove the rear speed sensor on 2008 Toyota Avalon?
A: Begin by disconnecting the skid control sensor wire through its connector and then remove the rear wheel before starting the rear speed sensor removal process. The procedure begins with caliper assembly LH removal from the rear disc brake system before eliminating the rear disk. The rear axle hub & bearing assembly LH must be detached by removing its 4 bolts. A vise should be used to hold the rear axle hub between aluminum plates but the axle hub & bearing assembly requires replacement if it experiences a strong shock or is dropped. Drill out the 2 pins of the 09520-00031 special service tool while hammering the 2 attachments (09521-00010) free from the tool. You will extract the rear speed sensor from the rear axle hub by using Special Service Tools 09520-00031 and 09520-00040 along with two bolts (Diameter: 12 mm and pitch: 1.5 mm). When the sensor rotor becomes damaged it becomes necessary to replace the axle hub & bearing assembly while also protecting the contact surfaces from scratching between the hub and speed sensor.
