2008 Scion tC Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to disassemble the Power Steering Pump on 2008 Scion tC?
A: The disassembly process for the power steering vane pump begins with vise installation using Special Service Tool: 09630-00014 09631-00132 while maintaining bolt torque at safe levels. Detach the bolt first while removing the vane pump bracket followed by the bolt of suction port union then take out the O-ring from the suction port union. The pressure port union together with its O-ring requires removal before extracting the flow control valve and compression spring. The replacement of the oil pressure switch becomes necessary when the component is damaged or drops. Remove the four securing bolts from the rear housing that connects it to the front housing while extracting the O-ring present in the rear housing. Two screwdrivers remove the snap ring from the shaft sub-assembly with pulley before pulling out the shaft along with the pulley. The first step requires removal of the ten vane pump plates along with the vane pump rotor and subsequent removal of the vane pump cam ring. Wash out the O-rings from the front side plate as well as the front housing before removing them both from the front housing. You should employ a screwdriver to extract the oil seal from the vane pump housing yet preserve the front housing from any potential damage.
