2008 Scion tC Brake Booster Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to install the brake booster on 2008 Scion tC?
A: Installation of the brake booster begins with applying a new brake booster gasket. First apply new gasket to the brake booster before adding the grommet and check valve components. Use 4 nuts to secure the brake booster while torquing them to 12.7 Nm (130 kgf-cm, 9 ft-lbf). The brake booster vacuum hose installation requires clamping the hose to the booster before you place the push rod clevis with its lock nut. After brake pedal height adjustment you should torque the clevis lock nut. The brake tubes must be secured to clamps following the provided illustration before attaching the clamp to each tube. Technicians should connect the front brake tube No. 5 through Special Service Tool: 09023-00101 while torquing it to 15 Nm (155 kgf-cm, 11 ft-lbf) without the tool but to 14 Nm (143 kgf-cm, 10 ft-lbf) with tool assistance using a 30 cm (11.81 in.) torque wrench. The installation of the grommet needs to be done properly. Place the left front wheel and follow up with a torque of 103 Nm (1,050 kgf-cm, 76 ft-lbf). Afterward install the brake master cylinder sub-assembly followed by the air cleaner cap sub-assembly and lower cowl body mounting bracket LH and then the No. 1 cowl water extract hose and outer cowl top panel sub-assembly. The brake master cylinder push rod needs to be clevised before filling its reservoir with brake fluid while draining air from the brake master cylinder and brake line. Lightly depress the brake pedal to perform tests that verify its height followed by inspections of free play and reserve distance and fluid level checks in the reservoir system with leak detection as part. To complete the installation sequence you must add the windshield wiper motor along with its link system and both the cowl top ventilator louver and hood to cowl top seal before adding the windshield wiper arm and blade assemblies for LH and RH sides accompanied by the front wiper arm headcaps. During this step you should double-check the brake booster assembly.
