2007 Toyota Tundra Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the water pump on 2007 Toyota Tundra?
A: The water pump repair commences after you remove the No. 1 engine under cover and drain the engine coolant. The service starts with V-bank cover removal and disconnecting radiator hose inlet and outlet lines before taking off the fan shroud. A replacement of the water pump assembly should follow any detection of coolant leakage at the air hole and water hole. A test of pulley rotation should confirm that the water pump bearing works without noise while you inspect for assembly replacement. After inspection the technician should reinstall the fan shroud and connect the radiator hoses before adding engine coolant to check for leaks. Final steps involve reinstalling the V-bank cover and No. 1 engine under cover. First disconnect the No. 1 engine under cover while draining the engine coolant. Then proceed to remove the V-bank cover before disconnecting the radiator hoses and finally removing the fan shroud. Separate the No. 2 air cleaner hose before detaching the air cleaner assembly which contains the element. Begin by disconnecting the two oil cooler hoses followed by the five water by-pass hoses prior to removing the water inlet housing alongside its attached five bolts and water outlet pipe and water pump gaskets. Start by removing the No. 2 idler pulley sub-assembly through a process of unbolted serivce and covering plates and idler pulleys. The procedure continues with the removal of V-ribbed belt tensioner assembly and generator assembly. You must take off the 17 bolts before enhancing the water pump and its gasket for removal. When installing the water pump assembly begin by attaching it with new gasket and 17 bolts and apply 9.0 N m (92 kgf cm, 80 in. lbf) torque for 10 mm head bolts or 23 N m (235 kgf cm, 17 ft. lbf) torque for 12 mm head bolts. The installation requires reattaching the generator assembly by inserting the V-ribbed belt tensioner assembly and No. 2 idler pulley sub-assembly consisting of both idler pulleys and cover plates through two bolts which need 39 N m (398 kgf cm, 29 ft. lbf) torque. The water inlet housing receives new gaskets on the water outlet pipe and water pump while soapy water is applied to the gaskets before fastening the 5 bolts to 9.0 N m (92 kgf cm, 80 in. lbf) torque. Then reconnect the 5 water by-pass hoses and 2 oil cooler hoses. The procedure ends by replacing the fan shroud while hooking up radiator hoses then installing the air cleaner assembly with element, No. 2 air cleaner hose, and checking engine coolant level before inspecting for leaks and reinstalling the V-bank cover and No. 1 engine under cover.
