2007 Toyota Tundra Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the thermostat on 2007 Toyota Tundra?
A: Before servicing or repairing the thermostat one must first remove the No. 1 engine under cover before draining the engine coolant then taking off the V-bank cover. The service requires disconnecting the radiator hose outlet and unfastening the water inlet with the thermostat by removing three nuts and the gasket and thermostat. Check the valve opening temperature on the thermostat written directly on the device when examining the water inlet. Place the thermostat in water while you heat it accordingly to verify the valve opening temperature lies within 80 to 84 degrees Celsius (176 to 183 degrees Fahrenheit); if not then replace the thermostat. A thermostat replacement is necessary when the valve lift measurement falls below 8.0 mm (0.315 in.) at 95 degrees Celsius (203 degrees Fahrenheit). A proper thermostat replacement is required when the valve remains open below 40 degrees Celsius (104 degrees Fahrenheit). Install a new gasket and the thermostat with water inlet by using 3 nuts while torquing them to 9.0 N m (92 kgf cm, 80 in. lbf). First reconnect the radiator hose outlet followed by filling the system with engine coolant while also performing leak inspection before putting back the V-bank cover and No. 1 engine under cover.
