2007 Toyota Tacoma Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to service and repair the rear Sway Bar Kit for the Sport Suspension Package on 2007 Toyota Tacoma?
A: Start servicing or repairing the rear sway bar kit that belongs to the Sport Suspension Package by removing the rear wheel. To begin sway link assembly detachment on the left-hand side users must remove 2 nuts along with the sway link but they should use a hexagon wrench (6 mm) to fasten the stud if the ball joint spins. You will perform the same steps for the right-hand side which requires an exact duplicate of the left-hand procedure. Completely remove the rear sway bar kit after removing its 4 bolts and 2 sway brackets along with the bar itself and then discard the 2 sway bushes attached to the bar. To inspect the ball joint users should toggle it back and forth 5 times before tightening the nut using a torque wrench according to a 3 to 5 second per turn rate. Users should take the torque reading on the fifth turn and verify that the torque reading measures below 2.0 Nm (20 kgf-cm, 18 inch lbs.). Users should also inspect for any signs of cracks and grease leakage on the ball joint dust cover at this time. Install both sway bushes onto the sway bar kit facing toward its outer side of the marking before securing the sway brackets and bar components through 4 bolts with a torque of 27 Nm (275 kgf-cm, 20 ft. lbs.). The installation for the left-hand rear sway link requires a torque of 69 Nm (704 kgf-cm, 51 ft. lbs.) for each nut. A hexagon wrench (6 mm) should be used to keep the stud stable when the ball joint moves with the nut. Repetitions of installation show should follow the procedure already used on the left-hand side. Put back the rear wheel and apply torque to 113 Nm (1,152 kgf-cm, 83 ft. lbs.).
