2007 Toyota Solara Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to remove and install the windshield glass for the Coupe on 2007 Toyota Solara?
A: Begin the windshield glass removal process on the Coupe by eliminating the inner rear view mirror assembly and roof headlining assembly through the removal of front door scuff plates together with cowl side trim and roof side rail Weather Strip followed by front door opening trim Weather Strip and front pillar garnish then visors and visor holders along with assist grip and roof console box but preserve roof headlining at partial height. The series of steps begins with removing the cowl top ventilator louver sub-assembly followed by the outer upper windshield moulding by precision cutting with a knife to prevent any vehicle body damage. The outer surface of the vehicle body needs protective tape before inserting piano wires between glass and body to link handles to the wire ends. Cut the adhesive with piano wire before detaching the stoppers allowing a suction cup to remove windshield glass with as much adhesive remaining on the vehicle body. Scrape off damaged stoppers along with retainers and adhesive from the windshield glass followed by outer edge cleaning with white gasoline except on the surface itself. The contact surface of the vehicle body requires cleaning which includes removing surplus adhesive followed by using a cleanser. Before mounting the new stoppers the user should apply Primer G to their installation areas which need to dry for a minimum of three minutes before installation. Two stoppers should be attached to the windshield glass and two should be installed to the vehicle body. Use a suction cup to position the windshield glass with a flat contact surface while applying matchmarks if installing new glass. After applying Primer G to the installation area of the windshield adhesive dams, add double-sided tape to the outer windshield glass edge except for areas D and E. Apply Primer M to the body section that will lack windshield glass before allowing 3 minutes of drying. Use Primer G to cover the contact zone on the glass surface which should also dry for 3 minutes. The windshield glass requires a specific adhesive called Part No. 08850-00801 or equivalent that needs application within the time interval after you cut the cartridge nozzle. You should install the windshield glass onto the vehicle body while aligning matchmarks and carefully pressing it along the rim until you create a minimal gap between both surfaces followed by protective tape application until the adhesive gets hard. Before setting the new outer upper windshield moulding install primer G on the glass surface then check for leaks after adhesive solidification and use auto glass sealer on remaining gaps.
