2007 Toyota Solara Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the PARK/NEUTRAL SAFETY SWITCH on 2007 Toyota Solara?
A: The PARK/NEUTRAL POSITION SWITCH requires service or repair which begins with removing the battery as well as the engine cover No.1 subassembly, air cleaner assembly, air cleaner hose No.1, intake air resonator subassembly and engine under cover LH. The floor shift cable transmission control shift can be detached through connector removal of the park/neutral position switch then by unfastening the control shaft lever nut followed by severing the control cable from the lever and finally disconnecting the cable from its bracket with the clip. The first step to remove the park/neutral position switch assembly requires the nut washer and control shaft lever detachment followed by prying the lock plate to remove the lock nut lock plate and pull out the switch through its two detachable bolts. An evaluation of the park/neutral position switch assembly requires operators to enable parking brake engagement and turn the ignition switch to ON position and activate the brake pedal to verify engine start-up in N or P modes and ensure Back Up light and reverse warning buzzer operation restricted to R position usage. The detection of any failure during this test requires examination of the park/neutral position switch. The assembly adjustment requires a procedure where users loosen both bolts and position the shift lever at N while directing the groove toward the neutral basic line before holding the assembly in place and securing bolts to 5.4 Nm (55 kgf-cm, 48 inch lbs). Recheck the system using the same procedure following the adjustment of components. The park/neutral position switch installation requires connecting it to the manual valve shaft by placing two temporary bolts then the new lock plate before tightening the nut to 6.9 Nm (70 kgf-cm, 61 inch lbs.). The control shaft lever should come next for temporary installation before turning it counterclockwise until it stops then clockwise 2 notches. Remove the lever and set the switch in neutral basic line position while tightening bolts to 5.4 Nm (55 kgf-cm, 48 inch lbs.). Attach the floor shift cable transmission control shift by placing the control cable on the control shaft lever then tightening the nut to 13 Nm (130 kgf-cm, 9 ft. lbs.). Follow this with connecting the park/neutral position switch connector. Secure the transmission control shift by clamping the control cable to the control shaft lever through a torque of 15 Nm (153 kgf-cm, 11 ft. lbs.) and fasten a new clip onto the bracket for securing the control cable. The repair process requires reinstallation of engine under cover LH followed by the intake air resonator subassembly then air cleaner hose No.1 and air cleaner assembly before adding engine cover No.1 subassembly and the battery. Shift lever position and park/neutral position switch assembly must be inspected and adjusted before performing initialization.
