2007 Toyota Sienna Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the power steering pump on 2007 Toyota Sienna?
A: Service and repair of the power steering pump requires draining the fluid then removing front wheel RH, front fender apron seal RH, and the fan and generator V belt. Unfasten the No. 1 fluid reservoir to pump hose using the clip system then separate the pressure feed tube assembly by removing its union bolt with gasket. You should start by removing bolt (A) with Special Service Tool: 09249-63010 followed by bolt (B) removal from the vane pump assembly while disconnecting the power steering fluid pressure switch connector. You should place the vane pump assembly inside a vise using Special Service Tool: 09630-00014 (09631-00132) to remove the power steering suction port union and O-ring. The power steering fluid pressure switch must be replaced followed by removal of the pressure port union along with the O-ring and flow control valve assembly as well as flow control valve compression spring. The vane pump maintenance begins by unscrewing four bolts and removing the O-ring from the rear housing before extracting the vane pump shaft with its pulley alongside a snap ring followed by separate removal of the rotor and cam ring and front side plate while discarding all O-rings. Checking the vane pump requires measuring the vane pump shaft outer diameter with attached pulley and the bushing inside the front housing to determine the oil clearance should remain under 0.07 mm (0.0028 inch). Measuring the vane pump plate thickness requires it to be between 1.405 to 1.411 mm (0.05531 to 0.05555 inch) while inspecting the vane pump rotor groove to plate clearance must not exceed 0.03 mm (0.0012 inch). Refer to the flow control valve assembly for detecting any sign of leaks while checking its ability to work smoothly then measure its compression spring free length that must exceed 29.2 mm (1.150 inch). Check that the pressure port union remains undamaged when testing that the pump should move without resistance with a torque of 0.27 Nm (2.8 kgf-cm, 2.4 inch lbs.) or less. The vane pump housing oil seal replacement requires power steering fluid before the installation of Special Service Tool: 09950-60010 (09951-00280), 09950-70010 (09951-07100) and a press followed by careful insertion of the vane pump shaft with pulley. After aligning the front side plate with the cam ring you should proceed to install the rotor and plates before securing the snap ring. Apply new O-rings to the rear housing then position correctly before tightening the bolts to 22 Nm (224 kgf-cm, 16 ft. lbs.). Assemble the flow control valve together with the pressure port union then torque them at 69 Nm (704 kgf-cm) for the valve assembly and 21 Nm (214 kgf-cm) for the pressure port before installation. The vane pump assembly installation ends with the power steering suction port union at 12 Nm (122 kgf-cm, 9 ft. lbs.) torque and reassembly with correct torque specifications of 43 Nm (439 kgf-cm, 32 ft. lbs.) without the special service tool or 29 Nm (294 kgf-cm, 21 ft. lbs.) with it. Proceed by joining the power steering fluid pressure switch connector along with the pressure feed tube assembly and No. 1 fluid reservoir to the pump hose before attaching the fan and generator V belt. You must add power steering fluid to the system and proceed with bleeding the system to verify correct fluid level while examining for fluid leaks. Afterward install the front fender apron seal RH and front wheel RH by torquing the wheel to 103 Nm (1,050 kgf-cm, 76 ft. lbs.).
