2007 Toyota Sequoia Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the water pump on 2007 Toyota Sequoia?
A: The maintenance of water pumps starts with draining the engine coolant followed by timing belt removal. The first step is to drain the No.2 idler pulley followed by the removal of the water bypass hose from the water inlet housing. Take out the two bolts which secure the water inlet housing onto the water pump and untether it from the front water bypass joint before removing the water inlet assembly along with the inlet housing while keeping the O-ring from the water inlet housing. During water pump removal you must eliminate five bolts and two stud bolts and a nut, the water pump, the gasket, and finally extract the O-ring from the water bypass pipe. Start by applying soapy water to the new O-ring placed on the water bypass pipe end and then connect the water pump to this pipe. Insert the water pump along with its new gasket while applying uniform tightening pressure to the five bolts and two stud bolts and nut in multiple installation steps reaching a torque value of 21 Nm for bolts and 18 Nm for stud bolts and nut. Proceed with water inlet hardware installation while eliminating old FIPG packing before the contact points and afterward applying seal packing (Part No. 08826-00100 or equivalent) to the water inlet housing sealing groove during a three-minute part assembly timeframe. Secure the water inlet housing to the front water bypass joint hole while applying soapy water to its new installed O-ring then fasten the assembly with two bolts twisted to 18 Nm torque. The sequence ends with connecting the water bypass hose to the water inlet housing and reinstalling components in this order: No. 2 idler pulley, timing belt then filling the system with engine coolant before initial engine start to search for leakage and repeat engine coolant level monitoring.
