2007 Toyota RAV4 Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to service and repair the TPMS Sensor and Transmitter on 2007 Toyota RAV4?
A: The Tire Pressure Warning Valve and Transmitter service requires technicians to start by removing front and rear tires and tire pressure warning valve sub-assembly. To release pressure start by uncapping the valve core and leaving it open before unscrewing the valve nut and retaining washer until the valve falls inside the tire cavity. Detach the tire bead with the shoe tool from the tire remover while maintaining safety of the valve sensor. Pull up the tire bead first before you pull the sensor from the tire space then remove the bottom tire bead. Examine the inner grommet of the tire pressure warning valve for damage or cracks then substitute the grommet and nut and washer if needed. The valve installation process requires the tire pressure warning valve to enter the valve installation hole inside the rim but only when there is no deformation or foreign material visible. Install the washer on the valve from the rim side and use the nut to torque it to 4.0 Nm (41 kgf-cm, 35 inch lbs.) while keeping the washer area clean. The tire should be inflated at this point before you re-torque the valve nut according to specifications and conduct inspection for leaks using soapy water. Place the wheel disc on the mounting machine while installing the lower tire bead before correctly setting the valve sensor main body to prevent possible interference. Place the upper bead within proper distance from the sensor to prevent clamp formation. To complete the installation process you must fasten both front and rear tires according to the specified torque value of 103 Nm (1,050 kgf-cm, 76 ft. lbs.). If you replace the ECU you must register the transmitter ID and inspect the tire pressure warning system. When discarding the tire pressure warning valve sub-assembly users should remove its lithium battery by first cutting off the battery base board terminals and then separating the back cover before proper disposal of the battery material.
