2007 Toyota RAV4 Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the A/C Condenser on 2007 Toyota RAV4?
A: A service or repair of the HVAC condenser starts with refrigerant discharge from the refrigeration system followed by disconnecting the negative terminal cable while waiting at least 90 seconds to stop Air Bag and seat belt pretensioner activation. Disassemble the front bumper cover before you disconnect the No. 1 cooler refrigerant discharge hose by removing its bolt and O-ring then apply vinyl tape to seal these openings from moisture and foreign matter contamination. The same sealing process should be applied to the cooler refrigerant liquid pipe following its disconnect. Start by disconnecting the radiator support upper bracket through removal of 2 bolts and 2 brackets then complete the task by performing the same procedure on the No. 2 fan shroud by taking out 2 bolts. First unfasten the cooler condenser assembly and cooler dryer with a 14 mm socket hexagon wrench by removing the cap from the modulator before getting rid of the O-ring and the cooler dryer itself. Start installation with the cooler dryer using pliers before applying compressor oil (ND-OIL 8 or equivalent) to new O-ring contact surfaces along with the cap. Place the O-ring after applying the proper torque of 2.9 N.m (29 kgf.cm, 25 in.lbf). Install the cooler condenser assembly followed by the No. 2 fan shroud with 10.5 N.m (107 kgf.cm, 8 ft.lbf) torque and then add the radiator support upper bracket with a torque of 45 N.m (459 kgf.cm, 33 ft.lbf). A new condenser requires compressor oil (ND-8 or equivalent) at a dosage of 40 cc (1.4 fl. oz.). To install the next piece, the cooler refrigerant liquid pipe needs vinyl tape removal and new O-ring receiving compressor oil before torquing at 9.8 N.m (100 kgf.cm, 7 ft.lbf). Use the same torque values to secure the No. 1 cooler refrigerant discharge hose after applying compressor oil to it. The service procedure requires alignment of the hood sub-assembly followed by front bumper cover installation and negative battery terminal cable reconnection then refrigerant recharging and engine warming and finally examining for refrigerant leak points.
