2006 Toyota RAV4 Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the A/C Condenser on 2006 Toyota RAV4?
A: The HVAC condenser requires service using a proper procedure which starts by discharging refrigerant followed by disconnecting the negative battery cable while waiting at least 90 seconds to avoid Air Bag and seat belt pretensioner activation. Start by removing the front bumper cover and disconnect the No. 1 cooler refrigerant discharge hose by removing its bolt and its O-ring while applying vinyl tape to seal the openings to keep away moisture and foreign material. Seal the cooler refrigerant liquid pipe openings after you disconnect it in the method mentioned previously. First detach the radiator support upper bracket through removal of two bolts accompanied by two brackets and then separate the No. 2 fan shroud by unfastening two bolts. Use a 14 mm socket hexagon wrench to unfasten the modulator cap before you take out the O-ring and the cooler dryer from its housing. Start by installing the cooler dryer with pliers then add ND-OIL 8 or equivalent compressor oil to the new O-ring and cap prior to torquing the components to 2.9 N.m (29 kgf.cm, 25 in.lbf). The installer should first affix the cooler condenser assembly before installing the No. 2 fan shroud using 10.5 N.m (107kgf.cm, 8 ft.lbf) torque setting and completing the installation by attaching the radiator support upper bracket with a 45 N.m (459 kgf.cm, 33 ft.lbf) torque. The cooler refrigerant liquid pipe requires you to uninstall the vinyl tape followed by oiling a new O-ring before installation with a torque of 9.8 N.m (100 kgf.cm, 7 ft.lbf). Propagate the same procedure to the No. 1 cooler refrigerant discharge hose after oiling it with compressor oil then subject it to identical torque measures. The process includes adjusting the hood sub-assembly while installing the front bumper cover followed by negative battery terminal cable connection. The technician then charges and heats the engine while inspecting the vehicle for refrigerant leaks.
