2007 Toyota Prius Coolant Reservoir Parts Q&A

  • Q: How to Service and Repair the Coolant Reservoir on 2007 Toyota Prius?
A: A proper service of the coolant heat storage tank starts by checking DTCs before and after work then refraining from touching the tank during hot conditions for safety reasons. Start the service by taking away the rear No. 2 floor board, rear deck floor box and then proceed to remove the rear No. 3 floor board. The battery negative cable needs removal but service takes at least 90 seconds as a safety measure against Air Bag and seat belt pretensioner operations. The service begins by taking out the radiator support opening cover then removing engine under covers (LH and RH) and front bumper cover and partially detaching the front fender liner LH. Users should drain engine coolant through the drain cock plug while paying attention to its heat temperature. The coolant heat storage task assembly removal requires disconnecting two hoses along with water pump motor connectors and temperature sensor connectors before unfastening the four bolts and the nut while maintaining tank tension to prevent bracket bending. The installation of the new coolant heat storage tank requires first inserting claws and the stud bolt before tightening four bolts and a nut to 19 Nm of torque (194 kgf-cm or 14 ft. lbs.) while maintaining forward pressure on the bracket. Rejoin all connectors to the water pump motor and temperature sensor before attaching the two hoses. Connect the cable to the negative battery terminal before reinstalling the rear No. 3 floor board, rear deck floor box and rear No. 2 floor board. Completing your task requires adding engine coolant followed by leak inspection then reinstalling the front fender liner LH, front bumper cover together with engine under covers (RH and LH) and finally the radiator support opening cover. Some systems need initialization once the battery disconnect phase ends. This should be performed as the last step of the process.
