2007 Toyota Highlander Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the Vapor Canister on 2007 Toyota Highlander?
A: Start the Evaporative Emission Control Canister servicing process by detached exhaust pipe assembly center through bolt removal and compression spring removal. Proceed by detaching the center part of the exhaust pipe from 4 exhaust pipe supports before removing gaskets at the exhaust pipe front No. 3 and center assembly. The service begins with removing the front No. 3 floor heat insulator through bolt unscrewing followed by removing the heat insulator. To work on the charcoal canister assembly you must first disconnect both hose and connector then disconnect the hose alongside the charcoal canister fuel hose by pinching the retainer while pushing the quick connector out of position and always check for foreign objects and dirt absence. Use hand strength instead of tools to perform parts disassembly while applying the vinyl bag for protecting connected elements after disconnecting them. Use a combination of pushing and pulling to break free the quick connector and pipe before taking off the securing nuts between the charcoal canister assembly and its 2 nuts. The charcoal canister assembly should be connected to the 2 nuts before achieving a torque of 36 N.m (367 kgf.cm, 27 ft.lbf) followed by torquing the final nut to the same value. After placing the quick connector pipe into position push the connector until you hear a click indicating proper attachment through connector pullback. Reattach the hose along with the hose connector before installing the front No. 3 floor heat insulator through 4 nuts tightened to 4.9 N.m (50 kgf.cm, 43 in.lbf). Install the exhaust pipe assembly center by using a vernier caliper to verify the compression spring reaches the required minimum free length dimensions which should be center to front equal to 41.5 mm (1.634 in.) and center to tail should be 40.5 mm (1.594 in.). A free length check of the compression spring must proceed an insufficiency replacement before installing two replacement gaskets for the exhaust pipe center to its mounting on four exhaust pipe supports that will be secured with four compression springs and bolts tightened to 48 N.m (489 kgf.cm, 35 ft.lbf). Look for exhaust gas leakages then secure all necessary areas until all leaks stop while replacing any broken components.
