2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to service and repair the water pump on 2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser?
A: Serviceable components start with removing the battery cable from the terminal and proceeding to disconnect the fan unit and separate the V-bank cover with air filter unit followed by taking off the generator and water inlet assembly through unhinging two radiator hoses and five water bypass hoses and bolt removal along with extraction of an O-ring from the water outlet port and a gasket from the water pump system. The service will start by taking out 17 bolts to detach the water pump assembly after the separation of vane pump assembly followed by V-ribbed belt tensioner assembly dismantling followed by separating cooler compressor assembly then removing No. 2 idler pulley sub-assembly. Examine the water pump assembly for coolant leakage while testing that the bearing moves without issues before making a replacement if needed. Install the water pump with a new gasket by using the 17 bolts while torquing Bolt A to 9.0 N m (92 kgf cm, 80 in. lbf.) and Bolt B to 23 N m (235 kgf cm, 17 ft. lbf.). To install the water inlet you need to place an O-ring on the water outlet pipe, a new gasket on the water pump and apply soapy water to the O-ring before securing the 5 bolts to a torque of 9.0 N m (92 kgf cm, 80 in. lbf.). After which you reconnect the 5 water by-pass hoses and 2 radiator hoses. The final step includes reattaching the generator assembly and air cleaner assembly and fan before terminating the procedure by securing the cable connection to the negative battery terminal while using a torque of 3.9 N m (40 kgf cm, 35 in. lbf) then reinstalling the V-bank cover.
