2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser Parts Questions & Experts Answers

  • Q: How to remove and install a radiator on 2007 Toyota FJ Cruiser?
A: Starting the radiator replacement requires disconnecting the negative battery cable then taking off both the V-bank cover and the No. 1 engine under cover sub-assembly. Use a reservoir to drain engine coolant while you detach the 7 clips from the radiator support seal upper. Next, begin fan shroud removal through a process of disconnecting radiator hose wires before loosening four fan pulley nuts to detach the fan and generator V belt while also removing these four nuts together with the fluid coupling assembly and the fan followed by removal of the reserve tank bolt and two fan shroud bolts. Unbolt the radiator assembly and remove the radiator grille by disconnecting the 2 radiator hoses as well as the 2 oil cooler hoses (with automatic transmission) before removing the 4 bolts. Remove the radiator hose inlet before removing both the No. 2 radiator hose and the oil cooler hose. Begin fixture installation with the radiator hose inlet then add the radiator hose No. 2 before installing the oil cooler hose. After bolting the radiator assembly using 4 bolts of 21 N m torque, install the 2 oil cooler hoses for automatic transmissions followed by the 2 radiator hoses. Installation begins with a temporary integration of the fluid coupling assembly with the fan to install the radiator grille and fan shroud. Afterwards, install the fluid coupling assembly with fan using the 4 nuts followed by fan and generator V belt installation and the fan pulley with 4 nuts at 21 N m (214 kgf cm, 44 in. lbf.). Torquing the reserve tank bolt to 5.0 N m (51 kgf cm, 44 in. lbf.) completes the installation before you use the same torque to fasten the fan shroud with its 2 bolts. The 2 oil cooler hoses receive 2 clamps (w/ automatic transmission) combined with the hose that joins to the radiator reserve tank. Reinstall the No. 1 engine under cover sub-assembly while reinstalling the V-bank cover after you reconnect the cable to the negative battery terminal at a torque of 3.9 N m (40 kgf cm, 35 in. lbf.), check for engine coolant leakage during the process of adding engine coolant and installing the radiator support seal upper by engaging the 7 clips.
