2007 Toyota Corolla Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to service the exhaust pipe on 2007 Toyota Corolla?
A: The battery negative terminal should be disconnected as the first step for servicing the exhaust pipe. A clip remover should be used to detach the heated oxygen sensor clip before lifting the front floor carpet and disconnecting the heated oxygen sensor connector to extract the grommet and finally employ Special Service Tool: 09224-00010 for sensor removal. The exhaust pipe tail removal process starts with removing two bolts and two compression springs from the tail then separating it from the two exhaust pipe supports Number 4 before taking off the gasket from the exhaust pipe assembly front. The floor panel brace front can be removed by unfastening two panel nuts. To begin exhaust pipe front assembly work first remove the two bolts and two compression springs before detaching the front from exhaust pipe supports No. 4 and finishing by taking out the gasket from the exhaust manifold. After installing the exhaust pipe assembly front measure the free length of compression springs with vernier calipers to be at least 41.5 mm (1.6339 inch); get rid of the old spring and insert a new one if the measurement is below standard. Prepare and set a new gasket into position against the exhaust manifold by using wood and plastic hammer until it reaches proper alignment. Also confirm proper installation while avoiding old gasket reuse. Screw the exhaust pipe front onto the two exhaust pipe supports at No. 4 and fasten it with two compression springs and two bolts torqued to 43 Nm (440 kgf-cm, 32 ft. lbs.). Put the following 2 nuts on the floor panel brace front then torque them to 30 Nm (302 kgf-cm, 22 ft. lbs.). Test the compression spring free length in the exhaust pipe assembly tail to be at minimal 38.5 mm (1.5158 inch). Replace the spring if the length fails this measurement. Use a new gasket installed at the exhaust pipe front position without reusing the previous gasket. Fasten the exhaust pipe tail to exhaust pipe supports No. 4 while tightening both compression springs together with bolts to reach a torque of 43 Nm (440 kgf-cm, 32 ft. lbs.). The installation process requires Special Service Tool: 09224-00010 to torque the heated oxygen sensor to 44 Nm (450 kgf-cm, 33 ft. lbs.). The operator should then pull the connector inside the vehicle before installing the grommet and connecting the heated oxygen sensor connector. Afterward, replace the front floor carpet with its clip. The procedure ends with reconnecting the battery negative terminal while torquing to 5.4 Nm (55 kgf-cm, 48 inch lbs.) before performing an exhaust gas leak check.
