2006 Toyota Corolla Parts Questions & Experts Answers
Q: How to service the exhaust pipe assembly on 2006 Toyota Corolla?
A: Service of the 1ZZ-FE exhaust pipe assembly begins with disconnecting the battery negative terminal. The heated oxygen sensor (Sensor 2 Bank 1) requires extraction through a clip remover to detach the clip while opening the floor carpet then disconnecting the sensor connector and removing the grommet before using Special Service Tool: 09224-00010 to pull out the sensor. The service procedure demands the removal of an exhaust pipe assembly tail by prying away 2 bolts and 2 compression springs to separate it from exhaust pipe supports No.4 before gasket removal from the exhaust pipe assembly front. Use a floor jack to remove the floor panel brace front and its associated two nuts. You must disconnect the exhaust pipe assembly front from its 2 exhaust pipe supports No.4 by removing 2 bolts and 2 compression springs. After this step, take out the gasket between the exhaust manifold and the exhaust pipe. The first step in installing the exhaust pipe assembly front requires vernier caliper measurement of the compression spring free length to be at least 41.5 mm (1.6339 inch). A new spring must be used if this requirement is not met. First apply a new gasket to the exhaust manifold while using a wooden block with a plastic-faced hammer for proper installation before the gasket reaches flush position and to prevent using a reused gasket. Tighten the 2 compression springs along with the 2 bolts fixing the exhaust pipe front to its supports No.4 at 43 Nm (440 kgf-cm, 32 ft. lbs.). The floor panel bracket front must be installed with two nuts that require 30 Nm torque (302 kgf-cm, 22 ft. lbs.). Check the free length of compression springs on the exhaust pipe assembly tail and replace them if they measure less than 38.5 mm (1.5158 inch). Use a new gasket on the exhaust pipe front while following manufacturer instructions and avoiding usage of the replaced gasket. Attach the exhaust pipe tail to the 2 exhaust pipe supports No.4 then secure both compression springs and 2 bolts at 43 Nm torque (440 kgf-cm, 32 ft. lbs.). Use Special Service Tool: 09224-00010 to install the heated oxygen sensor and torque it to 44 Nm (450 kgf-cm, 33 ft. lbs.). Then remove the connector from the vehicle opening and install the grommet. Connect the sensor connector before reattaching the front floor carpet using its clip. Fasten the battery negative terminal by torquing it to 5.4 Nm (55 kgf-cm, 48 MAW) before checking for exhaust gas leakage.
